In November 2015 the first interdisciplinary workshop on this topic (Brave New World- Migration, the Construction Boom and its Consequences) brought together in Berlin specialists of different fields. The discussion focusing on the manifold consequences of transnational migration on the home countries has to be continued, but within the extended geographical frame of Southeastern Europe. Not only Romania, but its neighboring countries are registering high emigration rates as well. The workshop in Timișoara will compare and contrast the actual developments and the long-term effects in Romania as well as in Serbia, Croatia and other countries. Among the main issues to be approached are: transnational aspects of migration, the symbols of success and the status symbols, the dream house and aspects regarding the future of the abandoned regions as they result from this migration phenomenon. English-language workshop moderated by Beate Wild and Raluca Buțincu Betea.
